Audio Units save state?

Sorry if this has been asked previously, but I'm trying to understand why AUs fail to return to a saved state on reloading an AUM file: All instances of a given AU either default to "last selected preset" (across all channels - annoying!), such as iSEM, or to first available preset, such as with Phasemaker. Is this an AU-specific limitation, a limitation in AUM, or a more global (iOS) problem? Thanks for any clarification!

I don't have Phasemaker but I do have Ruismaker and iSEM, and tried having a couple of instances of them, tweaked the controls of each to get different sounds, saved the session and re-opened it. It restored the state just fine, as it should.

I'm seeing this also. Lofionic Duplicat and Crystalline don't restore. Kosmonaut does.
Under Audiobus 3, Duplicat does but Crystalline still doesn't.

As far as I can see, Crystalline is not an Audio Unit plugin at all, but an Inter-App Audio app. Inter-App Audio does not support state saving, only Audio Units do.
