Global tune

Could it be possible to a global tuning in an app like AUM for instance? So many synth apps that lack a tuning function. This is always a problem if you want to play along with an acoustic piano for instance, and it's not at a perfect 440Hz. (Which I'm planning on doing tomorrow. :-) )
AUM has a transpose function when routing midi. Wouldn't it be possible to add a pitch bend value to implement a tuning function?

Theoretically, yes AUM could send pitch bend data to hosted IAA apps and AU plugins to adjust their tuning. However I don't think this would be a good solution, since you never know the pitch bend range/sensitivity of apps, and it would interfere with normal use of pitch bend. Better would be to use some MIDI standard to adjust master tuning, which I think is in the General MIDI spec. But then all the various synth apps would need to implement this, which I'm quite sure they're not :)
