MIDI routing between iPads
« on: May 08, 2018, 06:34:17 PM »
I had this working, and it seemed really simple. Now it doesn't and I don't know why.

I have a Novation LaunchControl plugged into iPad, controlling AUM. That works fine. I want to also control AUM on iPad 2. In iPad 1 AUM MIDI Routing, I sent LaunchControl to MIDI Control and to Network Session 1. On iPad 2, I sent Network Session 1 to MIDi Control. That worked, too.  I think that's all I did.

I updated the iPads to 11.3.1, and now it doesn't work. I don't know if that's coincidence.
I also had MIDIFire talking between the iPads, and that no longer works.

Am I doing something wrong, or did 11.3.1 break it?

Ableton Link is working to sync AUM tempo between the two iPads, so they are talking to each other.

Got it. Needed to set up a wifi session with MIDFire.

Jonathan, this used to work directly between AUM with 2 iPads.

Now it doesn’t, is it possible something broke on latest 1.2.5 update?

It would be great if we didn’t have to bring in a third party app to set up midi between two iPads running AUM.

As always, thanks for all the great apps and music making tools!

I didn't change anything related to network MIDI, so not sure why something worked before but not now. Perhaps the network MIDI session is owned and controlled by your laptop or something, so that it's only available when that device is on the same wifi?
